Fett is on a quest to capture the leader of an evil cult and will stop at nothing to retrieve his bounty, even if it means competing against a brutal rival for the prize. In Bounty Hunter, players are pitted as the feared mercenary Jango Fett, the father of the legendary Boba Fett, and are made to travel through his seedy world, interact with thieves and assassins, and more. The game, which is based on events from the Episode I and II feature films of the same universe, will also see a release on Sony's PlayStation 2 console. It is comfortably below the likes of Republic Commando, Rogue Leader, Jedi Outcast/Academy, KotOR I and II and the OG Battlefront games imo.Publisher LucasArts today announced that it will bring a version of its upcoming next-generation title Star Wars Bounty Hunter to GameCube this fall. I would probably put it on a par with Jedi Power Battles and Star Wars Obi-Wan as fun games that just lack depth and variety in gameplay. It's a solid 6 or 7 out of 10 for me, and I still play a lot of Gamecube games. If you enjoy the game then that's fine but I just find it a bit perplexing that people rate it so highly. I also like the level on Tatooine where you platform through a canyon fighting off Tusken Raiders and traversing through caves and over a sarlaac pit (it's a bit Tatooine-bingo but I think that's forgivable). There is a nice variety in locales, particular in the latter half of the game, my personal favourite is Malastare although it is quite tough and has the worst sky box in any game ever. Some levels end with a boss fight but this is usually a big gunship type vehicle which you lock on and shoot at until it blows up - there is no strategy or phases to the fight. There are no gameplay based objectives other than getting from point A to B, and then getting a cutscene to provide some context. There is no dialogue with NPCs and you don't do anything that makes you feel as though you are "hunting" - you just simply progress through one linear level to the end. There's no upgrades, no customisation, very few power ups and no side missions (other than the awful secondary bounties mechanic). Even in the mission where you have to "sneak" into a high security prison you simply walk up to the front door and start blasting at about twenty guards as they run out, go down a corridor to another room, blast another twenty guards, and so on. It's impossible to deviate from the run and gun gameplay to try stealth or anything like that. It's also the sort of game where once one enemy goes into an aggro state then all of his friends immediately know exactly where you are too. It's not practical when you are surrounded by dozens of enemies at one time. The other weapons are just too clunky to use unless in very specific circumstances - you have to cycle through a weapon wheel to select the grenade for example, awkwardly aim and throw it, and then cycle back to your blasters. Combat is simply hitting A as fast as you can while stafing with the jetpack. The secondary bounty hunting mechanic is very underdeveloped and poorly thought out, and not fun at all. It's a decent run and gun game with some fun vertical level design and platforming, which somewhat breaks up the monotony of the combat. I see nothing but unending praise for this game.
This game has gone to a hyper level of overrated over the last few years - with Disney's focus on Mandalorians and Boba Fett.
